An interesting essay about the “absence” of black americans in the experimental music scene. As a student of Wadada Leo Smith and a casual fan of Greg Osby, Jason Moran, Steve Coleman and Andy Milne, I would suggest the author do a little more digging. Granted, these guys are jazz musicians, but so were Coltrane, Ornette, Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, Albert Ayler, and most of the black guys referenced in the article.
