
As we mentioned earlier, excellent blogger and teen phenom Rachel Cantrell had a nice preview up on her blog the jazz post prior to last weekend’s festival. Rachel came to all three of the evening shows, sitting closest to the music, listening intently the whole time. She is an attractive girl, mature beyond her years, with a depth of understanding of music and society, and great writing chops. Oh, and she’s really nice and easy to talk to. I think she will do just fine in her post high school life, as she heads across the continent to New York City to pursue jazz and English studies at Columbia University.
The first of her series of reviews is out now, featuring a detailed interview with trumpeter Dan Rosenboom, whose ensemble just blew everyone away last Thursday. As Rachel says, Dan is “a trumpeter whose unique voice on the trumpet and in his music is just as clear as his ability to effortlessly and intelligently communicate his passion for all the forms of music that he’s combined in his own.”
